Sally Mann Reflection
My thoughts on the film are that I feel that we should set certain boundaries if we decide to photograph or film our children in the name of art. I agree that we should shoot what we know but some of the things felt a little uncomfortable for me because naked pictures of myself as a baby stayed in our photo album here at home. I could not even imagine how I would feel if these photos were to be published publicly. I do respect Sally Mann as an artist who spread her wings beyond shooting her kids. I found it also cool and crazy that she stepped into photographing actual decomposing bodies. I felt she was inspired by the fugitive dying in her yard by the police. Sally Mann is known for her beautiful black-and-white photographs of her children, family, and landscapes. Her photos of childhood and death were very controversial. She was born in Lexington, Virginia stayed there married, and had a family both her family and the landscape along the Maury River inspired her to shoot photography.
